Nextcloud is open source, so you can self-host it for free at any time — we even encourage it. Many of our customers start by running their own Nextcloud instance, and migrate to CloudBased Backup once they hit storage limits, outgrow their hardware, or no longer want to handle maintenance, backups, and security updates themselves. When you're ready, we'll help you migrate your existing instance with zero downtime.
Your account remains restorable for 30 days after cancellation, giving you time to revert your decision if needed. After 30 days, your data is permanently deleted from our servers in line with GDPR requirements.
Unlike Google Drive and Dropbox, your data is hosted in EU data centers in Germany, fully GDPR-compliant, and never used to train AI models or shared with advertisers.
